The Firefly Who Found Her Sparkle
The Firefly Who Found her Sparkle McKenna Bay
In a meadow by a quiet pond lived a little firefly named Flicker. Every evening, she watched the other fireflies light up the sky. Flicker glowed too, but her light was only a tiny twinkle.
The Moonlight Dance was tonight! Flicker wanted to twirl above the pond with the other fireflies. But when she looked at her tiny glow, she sighed.
Flicker ate a snack, took a nap, and tried glowing with all her might. She squeezed her eyes shut. She wiggled her tail. But her light stayed a tiny twinkle.
Just then, Flicker heard a little voice. “Help! I can’t find my way home!” Beneath the tangled grass sat a young ant named Pip. Flicker hurried closer.
“‘Follow my twinkle,’ Flicker said. Her little light helped Pip see the path. Together, they stepped over twigs and slipped beneath the tall grass, getting closer to home.”
“‘There’s my family!’ Pip cheered. He hopped into their waiting arms. ‘Thank you, Flicker. Your little light helped me find my way home!’ Flicker looked at her twinkle and smiled.”
“‘Come dance with us!’ called Luna. Flicker spread her wings. Her light was still a tiny twinkle, but this time, she didn’t hide it.”
“Flicker twirled above the pond as Pip cheered below. She didn’t need the biggest glow to belong. Even her little light could make a big difference.”
