The Team Practice

Jay was on the top soccer team at school. A big game was set for Friday, so the team had a long practice after school.

Jay sat on a cot by the field and put on his shoes. His dog, Spot, sat by his side.

Then Coach Tom blew a whistle. “Time to jog!” he said.

Jay began to jog around the field. Spot ran with him.

After a few laps, Spot saw a frog on a log near the pond. The frog did hop from the log to the grass.

Spot ran after the frog. “Oh no!” said Jay. He ran to get his dog.

As Spot chased the frog, he bumped into a pot that sat by a camp site near the field. The pot was hot, and its lid flew off. Pop!

Jay grabbed a mop from the camp shed and cleaned the small mess by the pot.

When the mess was gone, he called, “Spot, come!”

At last, Spot stopped by the log. The frog gave one last hop and slipped into the pond.

Then Jay led Spot back to the field. Practice was almost done. Jay joined his team for one final drill.

That Friday, the team played a great game. Jay worked hard and helped his team win.

“Top job, Jay!” said Coach Tom. Jay smiled and gave Spot a pat.

It had been a busy week, but everything had turned out just right.
