King Ramses II was born in 1303 B.C. and he ruled from 1279 to 1213 bc and he got to be king when he inherited the throne through his family after his grandfather. Rameses was married and he had over 100 children. King Ramses II was a confident and courageous leader. He was also ambitious. When King Ramses II was king, Egypt got many things done like the Egyptian-Hittite peace treaty. One other thing that they accomplished was that they got a new capital city.

The capital city that king Ramses II built was Pi- Ramses. He had his own passport in 1976 because the french were trying to anylize him. They are strict with who enters so they registered him as a citizen just for that. There were also MRI's on him and they found out that he was a redhead. he also signed the worlds oldest peace treaty after fighting the Hittites at the battle of Kadesh.

The Abu Simbel was engineered just right so that on his birthday- October 22, and on his cronation date- February 22, the sun shines through the entrance into 200 feet of the mountain. It shines at all the other gods and only leaves the god of the underworld in the darkness. He also built another temple for his wife, Nefertari wich was a very rare honor in Egypt at the time. Queen Nefertari was also the king's favorite wife.

King Ramses also celebrated the Sed festival witch was one of the festivals that Pharaohs celebrated in mid to late August. Another festival they celebrated was The Sun Festival and that was celebrated on February 22 and then on October 22. One last festival they celebrated was the Opet festival.
