Once upon a time there were two best friends named Lily and Veronica. One day they were at school for their first day of high school. They were nervous but they walked into the school together and went to their first class of the day. Lily was a quiet girl who didn't have many friends but she was happy because she had Veronica. Veronica was outgoing funny and always there for Lily. As they walked down the hallway Lily spotted a boy who was really CUTE. He had messy brown hair beautiful eyes and a smile that could light up a whole room.

Who? Veronica asked. Lily pointed at the cute boy. Veronica's eyes widened. Wait Do you actually like someone? Lily blushed. Shhh You're being too loud! Veronica giggled You have to find out his name! But I'm too shy Lily whispered. Don't worry I'll do it for you Veronica said.Veronica walked over to the boy and smiled. Hi What's your name? she asked. I'm Maverick he answered with a friendly smile. Veronica ran back to Lily as fast as she could. his name is Maverick she said excitedly Lily smiled She loved the name. Veronica do you think I should try to read his mind? Lily asked Veronica thought about it.yes That is actually a great idea! But there was one problem. Veronica had an older sister named Jessica, and Jessica was the biggest bully in the whole school. She was mean to Lily because Lily was quiet, and Jessica always wanted everything to go her way.

And guess what? Jessica liked Maverick too!The next morning Lily arrived at school early. She saw Maverick standing by his locker, so she took a deep breath and tried to read his mind. Suddenly a tiny magical sparkle appeared above his head Lily closed her eyes and concentrated. I wonder if that girl from yesterday will talk to me again Maverick thought. Lily's eyes popped open. VERONICA she whispered loudly. HE REMEMBERS ME! Veronica smiled. Of course he does You're amazing!Just then Jessica walked up to them. Why are you two whispering? she demanded. Nothing Lily said quickly. Jessica narrowed her eyes. Whatever. I'm going to get Maverick to fall in love with me. He's going to be my prince.

Lily's smile disappeared. Jessica turned and walked away flipping her hair over her shoulder. Don't listen to her Veronica said.Jessica thinks she can get anything she wants.But you don't have be loud or popular to special.Lily felt a little better.Later that day the school announced a royal themed winter dance Everyone had to dress like they were going to a royal ball! Lily was excited, but she was also nervous. She wanted to ask Maverick to the dance, but she was afraid he would say no.Veronica had an idea. We're going shopping for a dress! she announced.That Saturday, the two best friends went to a little shop in town. Lily found a beautiful light blue dress with tiny silver stars sewn into it. When she tried it on, she looked like a princess. You look AMAZING! Veronica said.Lily smiled. For once, she felt confident.

On Monday, Jessica showed up wearing a huge pink dress and a sparkly crown. Maverick is going to ask ME to the dance she announced. But when Maverick walked into the hallway, he didn't even look at Jessica. Instead, he walked straight toward Lily. Hi, Lily he said shyly. I was wondering if you'd like to go to the dance with me? Lily couldn't believe her ears. ME? she asked.Maverick laughed. Yes, you! Lily smiled the biggest smile of her life. I'd love to!Jessica's mouth dropped open. WHAT?! That's not fair! she shouted. But Maverick shook his head.Jessica, you can't decide who someone likes. I like Lily because she's kind, funny, and special.For the first time, Jessica had nothing to say.

The night of the winter dance finally arrived. The gym was decorated with golden lights, silver stars, flowers, and beautiful curtains. It looked like a real castle ballroom! Lily walked inside wearing her blue dress. Her hair sparkled under the lights, and she felt like she had stepped into a fairy tale. Maverick was waiting for her in a handsome navy-blue suit.Wow, he said. You look like a princess. Lily blushed. Thank you. You look like a prince. They laughed and danced together beneath the sparkling lights. Halfway through the dance, Maverick took Lily's hand. Lily, there's something I've wanted to tell you, he said. What is it? she asked nervously.I really like you. Would you be my girlfriend? Lily's heart felt like it was filled with a thousand butterflies. YES! she said happily. Veronica cheered from across the room. I KNEW IT!

Even Jessica watched quietly from the side. She realized that being mean wasn't going to make someone love her. She still had some things to learn, but she decided she would try to be kinder.As the clock struck midnight, something magical happened. A golden light filled the ballroom, and a tiny crown appeared above Lily's head. Everyone gasped! An old woman dressed in a sparkling silver gown stepped forward.Long ago, this kingdom lost its true princess, she announced. But tonight, we have found her. A true princess is not chosen because she is popular or loud. She is chosen because she has a kind heart.The woman placed a beautiful silver crown on Lily's head. Lily couldn't believe it.

She was the lost princess of the kingdom! Maverick smiled and bowed. My princess,he said playfully. Lily laughed. And you're my prince! Soon, Lily moved into a beautiful castle with tall towers, rose gardens, and a giant library. Veronica became her royal best friend and visited the castle every day.Lily and Maverick continued dating and spent their days exploring the kingdom, riding horses, and watching the stars together. And Lily, the quiet girl who once thought she was too shy to talk to her crush, discovered that being herself was the most magical thing of all. She didn't need to change who she was to become special. She already was. And so, Lily and Maverick lived happily ever after.
