The Great Treehouse Mix-up
In the middle of a beautiful forest was a big oak tree. One sunny day, Squirrel had an idea. "Let's Build a treehouse!" Squirrel exclaimed.
"A Treehouse! What a great idea!" said bunny. She bounced excitedly at the idea.
"Its going to be so much fun, we can build it with Hedgehog and Fox too!" Said squirrel. Then bunny and squirrel went off to go find their other friends.
All the animals got together to talk about the awesome treehouse idea. "Okay, time to plan out our tree house, let's share our ideas and listen carefully to one another," said bunny.
Bunny says, "I want a pretty garden for flowers and fresh carrots." Hedgehog says, "I want a cozy couch where we can take naps!" Fox says, "I want a fast slide coming out the top of the treehouse!". All the animals were listening to each other share their ideas about what was important to them...
... but squirrel couldn't stop daydreaming about the stash of nuts he could put in the treehouse. He was imagining piles of acorns stashed all the way up to the ceiling!
While he dreamed, his friends continued to share their ideas. Squirrel nodded along but his head was still full of acorns.
"Ive got it!" Squirrel shouted. "I know exactly what everyone wants now." His friends smiled, excited to see that their ideas come into play. "Just wait till you see what I make!" He said proudly and rushed off before anyone could ask him a question.
But there was one little problem. Squirrel hadn't really listened to what his friends said or asked for.
Squirrel gathered wood, flowers and cushions for the project.
Squirrel rakes and plants Bunny's flowers right below the treehouse. Bunny and fox saw this and were confused about how Fox's slide wouldn't ruin the garden below.
Squirrel filled up most of the inside of the treehouse with his acorns and so figured it was fine to put hedgehogs couch outside. Hedgehog watched as he hauled the couch into the grass and started to get angry at squirrel. "How will my couch stay dry?"
Fox looked up at the treehouse and saw that squirrel hadn't added any slide at all. He frowned and looked over at Bunny and Hedghog to see the same unhappy look on their faces too.
Now that they were all frustrated, they climbed up the slide less treehouse to find and talk to squirrel about this disaster.
As Squirrel listened to his friends' complaints he started to see how he misunderstood them. "Oh my gosh you guys, I am so sorry. I was only focusing one my nuts and I guess I wasn't paying attention to what you all were saying!" Said Squirrel with regret.
Bunny hopped over to squirrel, feeling less upset because he had admitted his mistake. "Squirrel, it is okay, we all make mistakes, but now that we are all here, how about we talk again about our plan and this time you can ask questions, and we can explain what you might not understand. also, we will all pitch in on the building" said Bunny kindly.
Squirrels frown turned upside down, "Okay that sounds great! I am really listening and paying attention now." he replied. The four friends talked and talked about their dream treehouse and asked and answered questions until everyone had a role and was totally on board.
Squirrel organized his acorns to just a small part of the room.
Hedgehog and bunny moved the garden to the area behind the treehouse.
Squirrel and fox lugged the couch inside where it wouldn't get rained on now.
They all screwed in the big awesome slide.
The four friends took a step back to admire their hard work. "Wow!" they all said at once. It was everything they had talked about and looked amazing.
"This is perfect you guys, thank you all for talking to me and helping me understand my mistakes. I'm so glad I have such kind and understanding friends." Said squirrel.
"That's what friends are for!" they replied. "Now let's go ride that slide!" Shouted fox "Okay but I'm taking my nap after, that was a lot of building" Yawned hedgehog. They all chuckled and ran towards the treehouse.
"Best day ever!" Shouted squirrel as they flew down the slide. The end!
