The Cat's Gallery Hosting Adventure
The cat is at her normal day at work, making sure the artwork is protected at her local Museum. There are constant look outs, making sure visitors aren't too close to the art pieces, security threats and other hazards (fire, spills and intruders.) Subjective Label (situation)
After walking around, the cat turns a corner and see's a visitor putting their hands on one of the most rare and expensive paintings. The cat begins to feel anger because the oils on their skin or nails could destroy the painting. Now she has to confront the visitor. Physiological arousal (arousal of the action of the touched painting)
The cat moves from sensory overload and verbally communicating her thoughts. The cat doesn't understand why the visitor touched the valuable painting and maybe is she was in the room it wouldn't have happened. What if the visitor gets mad when confronted about touching the painting. Is she in danger? Cognitive interpretation (anger and fear become the moods of the cat after after the arousal)
The cat makes her way to visitor to have the conversation while trying to think how to make it educational while not showing the anger or fear inside. Through expression the cat was able to calm down and explain that oils on our hands and our nails can destroy paintings which potentially will harm art history. Behavioral expression (the cat had some shake in her speech from nervousness but overall was able to express herself even though she was still fearful in the way the visitor's reaction)
The Schachter-Singer two-factor theory is when emotion is controlled by sensory and cognitive functioning which means you will feel a physical sensation and thoughts at the same time of a behavioral event. The cat feeling scared while recognizing that feeling and also feeling the physical sensation of the body warming up.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs regards the need for basic needs as human beings. We all have to take care of ourselves including eating, exercise and feeling safe in our homes. If we don't have those we won't be able to move up to achieve understanding of others (including ourselves) and then being able to be confident and achieving our full potential. We have to start with the basics to be able to achieve our dreams. The cat for example being able to express herself in a way because she showed up to work well rested and fed. She will then be able to possible achieve her dreams and advocate for herself for a possible promotion if she can handle fear and anger.
