Terry and Jerry An unlikely Friendship

Long ago there was a valley lush with green and where the sun was always shinning, where many dinosaurs lived. They all knew and played with each other. From sunrise to sunset, every dinosaur in the valley played until they could not. Everybody has happy. Among those dinosaurs were four friends who would always play together. They were Tank the Stegosaurus , Tina the Triceratops, Dave the Teradactyl, and Jerry the Parasaurolophus. One afternoon however that would change forever.

One afternoon the four friends were playing when a new dinosaur family came to the valley. They were Brachiosaurus which means they had long necks and they were tall and big. Among them was a young Brachiosaurs named Jerry. He did not have any friends since his family moved from valley to valley. He saw the four friends and decided to introduce himself.

He approached the other dinos and introduced himself. In a loud, booming voice, he said, “ Hello my name is Jerry, can I join you?” The others looked at him nervously and fearfully. They glanced at one another, unsure of what to do, since they had never seen anything so big! They stared in awe at his small head, which was attached to a long neck that seemed to stretch for miles. His neck connected to a body that was longer and taller than any waterfall they had ever seen.

They all kept staring and still did not say anything. Jerry began to feel nervous because they continued to stare at him. So, he asked again, “Is it okay if I join you?” The dinosaurs snapped out of their confusion when they heard him speak again. They all looked at Terry and pushed her forward since she was the closest to Jerry. Everyone looked at her, waiting for her to say something. Jerry looked at Terry and then back at her friends. Terry finally spoke. “My name is Terry, and yes, of course you can play with us! Come on!”

As they walked toward their play area, Terry introduced Jerry to everybody. She said, “Hello, Jerry! As I said, my name is Terry, and these are my friends. This is Tank, Tina, and Dave.” Jerry looked at everyone and said, “Hello, everybody! Nice to meet you.” As Jerry continued talking, however, all the others could focus on was how enormous he was. Jerry continued, “What do you guys like to pla—” Before he could finish his sentence, Tank interrupted him and asked, “I’m sorry, but have you ever stepped on anyone?” Tina also asked, “How do you see things when your head is all the way up there?”

Dave even asked him, “Are you fat or just tall?” With all these questions, Jerry began to feel weird and scared. He started to sweat from nervousness and fear. His bright green skin, as green as the grass, turned red as lava. He began to feel uneasy and pulled his head and neck inward, trying to make himself look smaller. Terry looked back and noticed this and told everybody "Enough we are here to play and not ask questions so lets all play hide and go seek"

When the others heard this, they forgot all about their questions and jumped up with excitement and joy. Jerry felt relieved, and his color soon returned to normal as everyone forgot about his size. Terry said, “Okay, everybody! I’ll be It first, and everyone else hides.” Terry closed her eyes and began counting. Tank, being a big Stegosaurus, decided to hide behind some rocks that were about the same shape as his body. Tina hid behind some broken trees and stuck her horns out to make them look like broken branches. Dave hovered in the sky because he knew Terry wouldn’t look up. Jerry, however could not find a spot.

No matter how hard Jerry tried, he just couldn’t find a place to hide. He tried squeezing behind rocks, hiding behind trees, and even lying down to make himself look like a small hill. Nothing seemed to work, so he began to panic and worry. Just then, he spotted a waterfall. He noticed how big it was and decided to investigate. He stuck his head behind the waterfall and discovered a cave. He thought it would be the perfect hiding spot because it was just his size. Jerry squeezed inside as water continued pouring over him. He laughed as the cold water splashed everywhere, soaking his body. Finally, he had found the perfect hiding spot! He faced forward, stayed quiet, and waited for Terry to find the others.

As soon as Jerry got settled in, he heard Terry say, “3… 2… 1… Here I come!” Terry walked around, looking for her friends. Suddenly, she heard heavy breathing and noticed that some rocks were moving. She got closer and discovered Tank hiding behind them. “Got you!” she shouted. Just like that, Tank was out of the game. Terry continued walking and noticed a shadow moving across the valley as if something were hovering above her. She looked up and spotted Dave flying in the sky. “Got you, Dave!” she yelled. Both Tank and Dave were upset as they sat and watched Terry continue searching for Tina and Jerry.

When Terry got to some tree branches she noticed that there were three tree branches more white than the other ones and especially more sharper. She got a stick and poked them and with a loud yelp Tina said "ow that hurt!" and Terry said "Got you Tina!!" All that was left was Jerry. She looked over rocks under bushes and trees and yet still could not find Jerry. She began to wonder if he had just left. They all regrouped at the waterfall the Jerry was hiding behind.

As they regrouped at the waterfall, Terry still wondered where Jerry had gone. Tank suddenly pointed at the waterfall and said, “Wait! Do you think he’s hiding behind the waterfall?” Dave looked at Tank, laughed, and replied, “Do you really think someone as big as the valley would fit back there?!” Tina joined in and said, “Maybe! He probably needs an entire mountain just to hide!” They all burst into laughter. Tank added, “With a neck that long, he could probably see across the world without even moving his feet!” The dinosaurs continued laughing and shouting, unable to contain their amusement.

Terry ignored them and continued thinking about where Jerry could be. Meanwhile, Jerry, who was hiding behind the waterfall, heard everything. His smile slowly disappeared and turned into a frown. The cold water trickled down his head as he backed farther into the cave, keeping his head lowered. He had been so excited to meet new friends, but now he wondered if they had ever really wanted him around. “Maybe I’m too big to have any friends,” Jerry thought as tears rolled down his face. In that moment, even though Jerry was a massive giant, he felt as small as a mouse. He wished he could be small, too.

With all the laughter going on Terry yelled "Be quiet already!! I hear something!" The other Dinosaurs thought she was crazy and continued to laugh. Terry walked closer to the water fall and began to hear a different sound. Not water crashing in rocks but rather a different noise. The sound of crying and sadness. She stuck her head in the waterfall and saw Jerry. He was as far back on the cave as he could with his head and neck tucked into his stomach. He was crying. Terry walked up to him slowly and cautiously.

“Are you okay?” Terry asked. Jerry lowered his head toward her and said, “No, Terry, I’m not okay. I heard everything. I heard you all laughing at me like I’m one BIG joke.” He began to cry even harder, and soon his tears trickled down like the waterfall beside them. Terry looked at Jerry, unsure of what to say. She felt terrible for what had happened, so she gently hugged him and whispered, “I’m sorry, Jerry.”

Terry looked at Jerry and told him, “It’s okay, Jerry. I understand that it hurts, and it wasn’t okay for them to say those things.” Terry gently took Jerry’s hand and said, “Come on. Let’s go talk to them.” As Terry and Jerry walked out from behind the waterfall, Jerry’s head poked out first, followed by the rest of his enormous body. The others turned pale as they realized that Jerry must have overheard everything they had said. They hurried over to him, eager to apologize. Just then, Terry spoke up. “Before anybody says anything, I need everyone to quiet down and listen.” They all fell silent and turned to look at Terry.

“I need you all to understand that what you said was hurtful and mean. Those things should never have been said. Jerry came to us as someone new, and he took a chance on us, so we should be willing to do the same for him. “He has shown us nothing but kindness and a willingness to hang out with us, yet you all turned your backs on him. “So what if he’s big? Tina, you have three sharp horns that almost always poke us. Tank, you’re loud and always bump into us. And Dave, you always want to fly, even though we can’t all fly. Yet we never make fun of you for being different. So why should we treat Jerry any differently?”

“I have a big horn on my head, and nobody says a word about it. So why should Jerry be treated differently?” The other dinosaurs looked at one another and noticed their differences. They felt ashamed when they realized that, even though they all looked different, none of them had ever made each other feel the way they had made Jerry feel. Seeing Jerry's sadness made them realize their mistake. All at once, they said, “We’re sorry, Jerry. We didn’t mean to make you feel that way.” They all hugged him, and Jerry replied, “Thank you. It means a lot to me. I don’t have many friends, and I was hoping you would be my first real friends. But if you don’t want me to hang out with you, I understand.”

As soon as Jerry said that, he stood up and was about to leave when the other dinosaurs stopped him. “We never said that!” Terry exclaimed. They all started to laugh and hug each other. Then, they played more games that everyone could enjoy, like tag and races. Of course, since Jerry was the biggest dinosaur, he usually won, but that didn’t matter to the others. All that mattered was the smile on his face. Jerry couldn’t stop smiling. He felt like the happiest dinosaur in the valley because he had finally found friends who accepted him for who he was.
