GUNHI
Uganda Kampala 1999 GUNHI by: Layla N Jenkins Mugunhi was 11 years old begging for food on streets of his house. Everyday he would only get a dime his family would then call him for dinner. They would mostly eat rice cause thats what they really can afford his oldest brother Adel was tired of it, Adel left a month later, he was 29 after all. Mugunhi's mom was so mad she burnt all his stuff, and erased any trace of evidence he was her kid.
Mugunhi is always begging everyday one time he got lucky and got a thousand dollars they could eat more food! He brung it to his mom, his mom was so proud and he gave him a thousand kisses after he said that.
Mugunhi's mom cooked baked beans stream beans rice and macaroni, they feasted and thanked god for this meal they ate and the mom also made sponge cakes fore desert. The mom , and dad worked at a building called squirt it and there job was to squirt water bottles, at each other and you get $5 dollars for each week! They were not successful!
Alright time to tell you the craziest story ever, Uganda,Kampala 1999 GUNHI Mugunhi was 11 years old when he was out begging. One day while Mugunhi was begging he heard boom! boom! boom! shots coming through the air.
Mugunhi ran until his legs gave out when he was sitting on the floor a soldier grabbed him and ran on his horse with him
Mugunhi was so scared you could hear his teeth chatter in the darkness. When they arrived at the place 10 men were standing there grinning. Mugunhi had to stay strong "What will I do, who is gonna find me, will these men do something to me?" The words traveled in Mugunhi's head for a while until the man spoke hi I'm your uncle... Kwame Hi Mugunhi Im uncle Kwame.
One of the men spoke, Jo: "Yo Kwame you better give us the money now we ain't playing!" Mugunhi's uncle spoke: "cant you see Im having a heart to heart with my nephew. "The other men groaned, the man Jo said: "Look if you don't give me that money now you will get a serious punishment." Mugunhi's uncle froze, "put it down Jo put it down!" the next second...
BOOM! Fire, all there was, was silence. Jo turned pale as his hair and told the boys to come on, and they rode off. Mugunhi was shocked all he saw was blood dripping down his face Mugunhi was stunned he didn't know him but that was still his uncle. Mugunhi ran , and ran, and ran until he just slammed down on the floor and rested until the morning.
The next morning Mugunhi knew what he has to do, he has to find a refugee camp. What Mugunhi did'int know was that a refugee camp will take a year to get to, because he is now in Tanzania. Mugunhi: "Im so hungry!"
Mind you Mugunhi is 11 years old on his own in Tanzania how will he get there where should he go? That decision is up to him.
Walking...., and Walking...., and Walking......, and Walking, he finally saw a house, a firm sturdy brick house. It was a little far away, but close enough for Mugunhi to see it Mugunhi: "Is this the camp?" "Will I finally be safe?" "Can I see my family again?"
Mugunhi kept seeing that brick house, Mugunhi: "how come I'm so close, but yet so far?" These words kept going in his head, until another 5 months past, and he made it! Mugunhi was so thankful! When Mugunhi came in he was greeted with warm hugs, food, and a pear of clothes, Mugunhi has never had that much food, and clothes. Then it clicked Mugunhi was so hungry that he created a image for himself to keep going, that image/brick house was created for him to keep going even though he was going through it.
Years Later............................. Gunhi 2007.... 8 years later Mugunhi is now 19 years old and he is now a adult, he got a job, and he is taking care of the children there. Mugunhi always had friends even growing up, so it was easy for him to make friends. Mugunhi said he was never capable to fall in love no matter how many pretty boys or girls there were he just couldn't fall in love. His friends thought it was dumb and laughed about it.
The next day the leader of the Refugee camp prepared a little race, Leader: "whoever can find this monkey toy over in the fields wins 100,000$" everyone gasped Mugunhi: "100,000$?, maybe I can go to America maybe I can find my family!" He was so excited his friends were also excited too! What Mugunhi didn't know was that his friends were about to turn there backs on him.
The friends of Mugunhi is name waro and Marlo. Marlo made the plan to throw Mugunhi off the cliff, and Waro agreed. When the race started they led Mugunhi to the cliff. Mugunhi: "What are you doing let go of me! Please let go of me! please!" Mugunhi cried, and screamed begging for them to let him go. Waro: Im sorry Mugunhi, but we need this money, Marlo: Im sorry too, but I hope to see you again, as they pushed him off he closed his eyes praying to God just like his family did at there dinner!
Mugunhi's friends pushed him off, and Mugunhi closed his eyes. At that minute Mugunhi opened his eye, and thought he was dead, turns out his mother was there, and caught him she cried, and said Mom: "My baby!" She was so thankful he was alive. Mugunhi was confused until he saw her. Mugunhi cried out too Mugunhi: "My mother!!!"
As Mugunhis mother wiped her tear she said: how did you make it? You were kidnapped! Mugunhi spoke softly: "I was taking from my home, I was begging, and uncle kidnapped me. He picked me up with a horse. Uncle got killed, I walked alone, I stayed away from war, and I found this refugee camp!" His mom didn't say a word she cried, and kissed her son. Mugunhi was still looking for that monkey toy until he saw it right in his moms pocket, he gabbed it and his mom said: "were going to America!"
Mugunhi was so excited, he could not wait! They booked a flight, and went to America. Mugunhi's mom told him everything, Mugunhis father divorced her, the kids went with dad to America, because the dad had another job to save money. The mom also explained that The kids are now in a foster care home, because there plane crashed, and I'm sorry Mugunhi but... "your dad is gone" she said. Mugunhi was sad but also mad, how could he do that to mom. Mugunhi's mom said: don't worry about that now, look in front of you! Mugunhi was confused: "Are you looking at the clouds?" Mom: "No its... its... America."
Hi I'm Layla Jenkins, I wrote this book to show the troubles a war can cause, and how hard it is to live this life style. This book was inspired by "A Long Walk To Water." A Long Walk To Water, is a book based on a little boy named salva at school when a war started. I want you to know, know matter what age you are that even though your struggling just keep going, because things don't come right away, but it will eventually, after Mugunhi went to America he helped people in his home country Uganda, and also found his true love! Thank you for reading GUNHI.
