Sometimes, God places people in our lives when we least expect it, and somehow, in a short amount of time, they touch our hearts in ways that people who have been there for years never could. You are one of those people.

You haven't been in our lives for very long, but somehow, it feels like your place in our family was meant to be. It's amazing how someone can come into your world as a stranger and, before you even realize it, become someone you cannot imagine your life without.

Shawna, you became the mother my heart had always needed. There is something incredibly special about a woman who makes you feel loved in a way you've needed for so long. Someone who makes you feel like you matter, who cares without needing a reason, and who gives you a sense of belonging that words can hardly explain. Sometimes, life doesn't give us every relationship we long for in the way we hoped it would. But sometimes, it surprises us by sending someone into our lives who fills a place in our hearts we thought might always remain empty. Because when someone makes you feel loved in a way that touches your soul, you learn that it isn't always about how long someone has been in your life. Sometimes, it's about how deeply they touch it. That is what you have done for me.

And then there is our sweet Gracie. Watching you become such a wonderful grandmother to her is another gift that words cannot fully describe. The love, care, and tenderness you give her are creating memories and bonds that are precious beyond measure. There is something beautiful about knowing that she gets to grow up with someone like you in her life, someone who can love her, spoil her, encourage her, and make her feel special. Those moments may seem small today, but one day, they will become some of the memories she treasures most. You didn't have to love us the way you do. You didn't have to open your heart to our family. And then there is Pap. Sometimes, life can be hard on a person's heart. Sometimes, people get hurt so many times that a little bit of their happiness fades, and they begin to wonder if the kind of love and peace they deserve will ever find its way to them. They learn to carry their hurt quietly, and even when they smile, there can be pieces of them that are still healing. Pap has been hurt more times than he ever deserved. And seeing someone who means so much to us finally experience more happiness is something we cannot help but be grateful for. Shawna, you have brought a happiness into Pap's life that means more than you may ever truly realize.

There is something so special about seeing someone you love begin to smile a little easier, laugh a little more, and have something to look forward to again. You cannot erase the hurt he has experienced, and you cannot change the past, but you have helped bring new happiness into his present.
