My Grandma Showed Me The Way

Night's before Ja'mani and her family had to get on the buses, Ja'mani was packing her stuff and remembered she has to stay with her mom because kids who gets lost have to be put on a separate bus and get adopted by new families.

Ja'mani and her family is getting ready to separate, but ja'mani mom had an idea to get walkie talkies just in case anyone got lost.

Ja'mani Grandma couldn't bring any of her medication because the bus didn't allow any type of medication or medical necessary because all the things going on in the world and war , but ja'mani had remembered she had a pocket in her book bag that isn't see able so she packed her grandma medication so she can survive throughout the bus ride, because it is gonna take them 3 days to get to Kenya.

while on the bus Ja'mani , her mom and grandma all sat next each other for safety , "mom when we get to Kenya where will we stay?" Ja'mani said to her mom , " all I know is when we arrive they will have us in small cabins with our family but dad and Samir will be with each other and me, you and grandma are gonna be together because we will still be separated", Ja'mani mom stated.

It's now day 2 of the bus ride and Ja'mani grandma is doing ok without her medication even thought Ja'mani told grandma she put some of grandmas medication in her book bag for safety, Ja'mani , her mom and grandma and the rest of the people who are on the bus have been eating bags of water and walwal.

It is now the third day of the bus ride and they have 20 more minutes till they arrive and Ja'mani grandma Samla was in need of her medication so Ja'mani told her grandma she remembered packing some for her so she had to sneak it and crush it up and put it in her grandma water. " Ja'mani how did you know which medication was mine before we left the house if me and your dad have a similar bottle of medication?" " I remembered that you taught me how to read and I read closely which one said your name on it" Ja'mani stated.

Ja'mani and her family and others have finally arrived, Ja'mani seen her dad and her brother samir ,but they weren't able to go on the other side , Ja'mani her mom and her grandma all have to share a small cabins, with one bedroom , bathroom and a small kitchen area ,luckily Ja'mani mom brought 2 sleeping bags for her and ja'mani and her grandma is able to sleep on the bed.

While settling in, Samia wasn't feeling well so she had to get rushed to the hospital. Ja'mani told her grandma that she had a dream this might happen and she wasn't able to figure out the cure the doctors gave her in the dream but in order for it to stop the doctors would have to give her some of medication.

its now been 4 yrs since the war been going on so since, Samia is still in the hospital, she is doing fine but nobody knows the cure for it, and the doctors can't keep her for long or she might have to go into a deadly surgery and its very risky. Samia decided after 4yrs she would just take the risk and do the surgery in order to know if she can survive.

while back at the cabin, mom and Ja'mani are trying to survive with the little food they have , Ja'mani helped her mom go out to find food while Samir and dad went hunting for animals to get food. Its been some days and people have started to get sick and some have gotten so sick to the point they died because of illness and starvation , Ja'mani had gotten scared because she though she was gonna end up like them.

Back at the hospital families where now able to visit family members that are ill so Ja'mani,Samir dad and mom all went to see grandma , but after surgery grandma wasn't doing well so they called the doctor in , but after a day grandma wasn't able to make it so they told her family that she didn't make it, " her illness wasn't the only problem but it was starvation and weakness" the doctor stated, Ja'mani cried for days but her mom explained to her that she will understand when she gets older , its just the territory she was in and wasn't able to handle all the weight that was thrown onto her.

most families have been sent to New York and Ja'mani family was one of them and its now the year 2024 and Ja'mani and her mom have reunited with dad and Samir and Ja'mani is now 17 she just graduated and has got accepted in to 15 collages and she is going to school for math and science , and remembered what her grandma always told her second chances might've been the key.

I wouldn't want to go through the things Ja'mani because it's always the hard things in life that's easy to solve but hard to figure out the way to solve them and the things Ja'mani went through at 6 years old is sad and I know she didn't want to experience at 6 and her grandma was a big part of her life and I really do love my grandma and I would feel the same without my grandma.

This story is about a smart 6 year old south Sudanese girl named Ja'mani growing up with her wealthy family , having to grow thought trauma at a young age with her grandma dying , and going though war .
