THE LITTLE THINGS THAT LIVE BETWEEN Where Did All the Giggles Go?
The Inbetween is a hidden world existing in the tiny spaces between ordinary moments. Humans cannot usually see it, but children with particularly curious imaginations may discover it.
THE LITTLE THINGS THAT LIVE BETWEEN Where Did All the Giggles Go?
Once upon a time, in a little house at the end of a sleepy street, lived a little girl called Quinn. Quinn loved three things: making silly faces, asking big questions and laughing until her tummy hurt.
But one morning, something felt different. Her teddy didn't seem quite so cuddly. Her favourite song didn't sound quite so happy. And when Daddy pulled his funniest face... Quinn didn't giggle.
"That's strange," whispered Quinn. Even the flowers outside seemed a little droopy. The birds weren't singing their usual songs. And the world felt just a tiny bit quieter.
That night, as Quinn snuggled beneath her blanket, she heard a tiny voice. "Excuse me... have you seen a giggle?" Quinn opened one eye. Then the other.
Sitting beside her was the tiniest creature Quinn had ever seen. It had fluffy lavender fur, golden freckles and little wings shaped like leaves. "Hello! I'm Pip," it squeaked. "And I have a VERY big problem!"
"What's a giggle?" asked Quinn. Pip gasped. "A giggle is a little piece of happiness that escapes when something makes you laugh!" "But they're disappearing!"
Pip explained that somewhere, hidden between the ordinary things in the world, lived the Inbetweenies. They looked after all the little bits of magic that people never noticed. "Like the space between a blink and a wink?" asked Quinn. "Exactly!" said Pip.
"Come with me!" said Pip. With a flutter of its leafy wings, a sparkling doorway appeared. Quinn took a deep breath. Then, with one tiny step... She stepped into the Inbetween.
WOW! There were enormous flowers, sparkling rivers and little glowing pathways. Tiny creatures hurried past carrying buttons, whispers and forgotten dreams. "Welcome to our world!" said Pip.
Suddenly, something tumbled out of a flower. BOING! BOING! BOING! It was a round little creature with mint-green fur and enormous spectacles. "Have you seen my giggles?" it asked. "Or my sandwiches?"
"This is Bumble," sighed Pip. "He looks after the lost giggles." "I DO?" said Bumble. "Oh yes! I remember now!" Then he scratched his head. "Well... perhaps I don't."
"Where have all the giggles gone?" asked Quinn. Bumble's eyes widened. "Oh! I put them somewhere safe!" He pointed towards a great big tree. "Somewhere VERY safe!"
The three friends hurried through the forest. They jumped over sleepy mushrooms, tiptoed past snoring snails and slid down a rainbow. At last, they found it. A giant glass jar hidden beneath the tree.
Inside were thousands of golden giggles, twinkling like tiny stars. But the lid was stuck! "Leave it to me!" said Bumble. He pushed. He pulled. He even tried tickling it. Nothing!
Pip tried a little magic. Nothing. Bumble tried a bigger push. Still nothing. Quinn thought for a moment. "Maybe we're doing it all wrong." Illustration: Quinn studying the jar thoughtfully, with Pip and Bumble looking hopeful.
"What's the one thing that makes a giggle grow?" asked Quinn. Pip tilted its head. Bumble scratched his tummy. Then Quinn smiled. "Sharing!"
Quinn pulled the silliest face she could. She crossed her eyes. Wiggled her nose. And stuck out her tongue! Bumble snorted. Pip squeaked. Then all three burst into laughter!
Suddenly... CRACK! POP! WHOOSH! The jar burst open. Golden giggles floated into the sky, dancing like a million tiny fireflies.
The giggles flew through the flowers. They danced across the rivers. They tickled the sleepy snails. And floated all the way up into the stars. The whole Inbetween came alive again!
"Look!" cried Pip. The flowers were dancing again. The birds were singing. And even the moon seemed to have a smile. "You did it, Quinn!" cheered Bumble.
Pip gave Quinn a tiny golden feather. "For being a wonderful finder of little things," it whispered. "Will I see you again?" asked Quinn. Pip winked. "We're always closer than you think."
With one final flutter of Pip's wings, a sparkling doorway appeared. Quinn stepped through... And landed softly in her own bed. Everything was quiet. Everything was cosy.
The next morning, Daddy pulled his funniest face. Quinn looked at him. Then she giggled. And giggled. And giggled some more!

But just before breakfast, Quinn noticed something on her pillow. A tiny golden feather. And beside it, written in the tiniest handwriting, were four little words...
See you in between. Quinn smiled. Because now she knew something very special. Magic wasn't always big. Sometimes, it was hiding in the smallest places.
And somewhere, between a tick and a tock... Pip was already looking for another little adventure.
Text: "QUINN!" shouted Bumble. "Have you seen my hat?" Pip sighed. "Oh, Bumble..."
And that, dear reader, was only the beginning. Because there are a million little things living between... And every one of them has a story. THE END.
