Prunes life journey

Deep under the cool, dark soil lived a tiny, quiet seed named Prune. Prune was small, but tucked inside was a big dream of growing up to see the sunny world above.

Prune wore a tough outer seed coat like a protective winter jacket. Inside that coat was a baby plant embryo and enough stored food to stay safe while waiting to grow.

Prune stayed fast asleep underground until the conditions were just right! Prune needed warm soil, cool rain, and sunlight warming the ground to wake up.

POP! As the warm rainwater soaked in, Prune’s seed coat burst open. Germination had finally begun, and Prune was waking up!

Prune pushed tiny white roots down into the soil to drink water. At the same time, a tender green sprout started stretching upward toward the light!

“Yawn!” Prune’s green shoot broke through the dirt into the bright, sunny world above as a young seedling. Prune now had a thin green stem and fresh tiny leaves.

Prune’s new leaves worked just like tiny green solar panels! Using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide from the air, Prune began making food through photosynthesis!

Day after day, Prune drank water from the soil and soaked up the warm sunshine. With plenty of light, air, and nutrients, Prune grew taller and stronger.

Prune was not a small seedling anymore! Prune had grown into a full adult plant with sturdy stem branches and deep, strong roots.

Soon, small round flower buds began to form on Prune’s branches. Slowly, the colorful petals uncurled into beautiful, bright blossoms.

Inside Prune’s colorful flowers was a powdery yellow secret called pollen. Prune was now ready for the next big mission: making new seeds.

Buzzzz! A friendly honeybee flew down to drink sweet nectar from Prune’s flowers. As the bee moved around, powdery pollen stuck to its fuzzy legs and traveled to other flowers

Thanks to the busy pollinator, Prune’s flowers were pollinated! As the petals gently fell away, tiny new seeds began growing inside small seed pods

When autumn arrived, the wind blew through the garden, carrying Prune’s seeds on a high-flying trip. Nearby, a helpful squirrel collected other seeds and buried them in the soft dirt.

The tiny new seeds settled gently into the cool earth, waiting for spring rain to call them to wake up. Prune’s story shows that the plant life cycle never stops it keeps going round and round

This story is about a plant named prune going through the five phases of the a plants life cycle. The story follows what prune experiences at each life stage. From a seed, and up until she reaches maturity and flowers. This storybook is intended for a third grade science classroom. The objective for our students is to identify and describe each stage of the plant life cycle. From seed to seedling, plant to flower and sometimes fruit. I hope that each student may experience a new way of thinking or enter a new phase of learning while reading this book.
