Lily's changing emotions

Little Body Big Heart
Meet Lily! Lily is a toddler who has lots of different feelings every day. Sometimes she feels happy, excited, and loved. Other times, she feels angry, scared, frustrated, or jealous. All feelings are normal, and everyone experiences them!
One day, Lily sees her friend Noah crying because he lost his favorite toy. Lily looks at Noah and feels a little confused. She is still learning how to understand how other people feel. Toddlers are still learning about empathy, which means understanding and caring about someone else's feelings.
Lily remembers seeing her teacher comfort a friend before. She gently pats Noah on the back. Her teacher says, "That was kind of you, Lily!" Lily is learning how to show kindness by watching the caring adults around her.
Later, Lily gets upset because she cannot have another toy. She starts crying and stomping her feet. Her teacher gently says, "I can see that you're upset. It's okay to have big feelings. Let's take a moment together." Toddlers are still learning how to control their emotions and use their words to express themselves.
With help from her teacher and family, Lily practices using words to explain how she feels. She learns that it is okay to feel happy, sad, angry, or scared. Her caring adults listen, comfort her, and help her understand her emotions.
