There Is a Girl in Sudan.
There is a girl in Sudan. Her name is elandra. She is 12 years old,and lives with her little brother, mom ,and father. She had a twin sister, but bad men took her.
"Elandraaa!!! Go fetch me some firewood!!" her mother called from the kitchen. She whined before responding with an annoyed yes.
She tip toes into the scary forest, quietly placing the fire into her basket before..snap.She looks up and there's a man. He seems tall and scary so she drops the wood and sprints home.
"mama!mama!the man that took sister!he was there!"she exclaimed. Fast forward 2 months later
Three years later,in 2008,there is still a girl in Sudan. she is now alone. With her mother lost in a war,her brother on his way to a far off land, her father taken by bad men, and she is now stuck in an unwanted marriage ,all alone.
The man she had to get married to, is not very nice. He makes her stay alone, all she does is clean and cook ALL DAY.
Then, she got tired of it. While her husband was away.. she RAN!and ran...and ran. Until the house was nowhere to be seen.
"well,I've gotten this far, what's stopping me now?" years later, shes found refuge in the kakuma refuge camp where she started working as a community speaker and social worker, also known as a problem solver.
during one of her visits to a troubled household, she finds her sister who was taken by bad men and forced to marry. Together, they go to the US and reunite with their brother.
In the end, they are all reunited with one another, and now help people all over the world overcome their struggles while their parents watch from above.
I wrote this story to raise awareness about the lost girls of Sudan. While many focus their vision on the lost boys,no one talks about the girls who endured domestic violence ,isolation, and mental abuse throughout the sudanese war. Now the question is..What will YOU do?
